TALKAM CAPACITY BUILDING WORKSHOP ON HUMAN TRAFFICKING HELD IN EDO STATE ON 30TH MARCH, 2021.

Human Trafficking is a modern day slavery which includes the recruitment, transportation, transfer, harboring or receipt of people through force, fraud or deception, with the aim of exploiting them. The fight against human trafficking requires calculated strategies, actions, knowledge and the combined effort of everyone to fight against. This requires capacity building of community leaders, religious leaders and other relevant stakeholders and engaging them to be at the forefront of combating human trafficking.

As a means to train and equip more people with knowledge and capacity to fight human trafficking in their communities, Devatop Centre for Africa development in partnership with Accion Contra La Trata with support from Pamplona Council Spain, held a capacity building training titled TALKAM- Against Trafficking and Sexual Abuse in Nigeria (TATA) on the 30th of March, 2021.

The National Agency for the prohibition of Trafficking in Persons and partner NGOs like: Network Against Child Trafficking, Abuse and Labour (NACTAL), Name Foundation, Idia Renaissance and Genius Hub Global Initiative were also present during the training.

 

The Communication Associate of Devatop Centre for Africa Development, Victoria Oladiran, welcomed the participants to the training and thanked Accion Contra La Trata and Pamplona Council for their support. Various anti-human trafficking advocates from partner NGOs like Obehi Okpiabhele, the CEO of Genius Hub, facilitated the training on Combating Violence Against Women while Chinenye Okoye from Idia Renaissance, spoke on Combating Human Trafficking in Nigeria.  Also, Mr. Nosakhare Erhunmwunsee, the Executive Director of NAME Foundation trained the participants on Becoming An Anti-Human Trafficking Advocate. He admonished the participant on the intricacies of being an anti-human trafficking advocate and how to create grass root awareness.

While giving a remark, the NATPIP Zonal Commander, Mrs. Ijeoma commended DEVATOP and partners for organizing the training and encourage participants to carry out community awareness. She further encouraged youths to expose activities of human traffickers and join hands with the authority to fight human trafficking in Nigeria.

Participants include Teachers, Community Leaders, Religious Leaders, Youth Leaders etc selected from 6 local government areas in Edo State. They were each mandated to enlighten at least thirty (30) community members each.

The trainees signed Take Action Forms to sensitize others on human trafficking.

Certificate of participation were awarded to these trainees at the end of the training to further encourage them and recognize them as anti-human trafficking advocates
